Where complex Physics meets simple Chemistry

About Me

I was born on January 18, 1972, to Asish and Uma Chowdhury (nee Ganguly) in a conservative Brahmin family settled at South Calcutta, though my predecessors (both paternal and maternal) were from Bangladesh. Originally, we were the descendent of “Chatterjee” family of Mymensingh eventually acclaimed with the title of “Chowdhury” in 1931 by virtue (or vice!!!) of Zamindari. I grew up in a joint family, with lot of almost equal loves and slaps. Sometimes recollect those golden days !! Now, I am a trained Physicist, but has a strong addiction towards physical and physical organic chemistry. I obtained my M.Sc (Physics) from the University of Calcutta in 1995 and parallely qualified in the GATE and NET examinations. For my pre-doctoral research, then joined the Spectroscopy Department of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) as Junior Research fellow under the supervision of Professor T.N. Misra and in 2000, was awarded with the “Young Investigator Award”, as a maiden Indian to receive this international award for accomplishment in the field of Raman spectroscopy. I was awarded with the Ph. D (Science) degree from Jadavpur University in 2001 and in the same year joined Sammilani Mahavidyalaya as a lecturer in the department of Physics. With the active help of my colleagues, well equipped undergraduate General and Advanced Physics Laboratories have been developed within a record time. Thanks to Professor Kamal Bairagi,Professor Prasenjit Nayek, Professor Atanu Goswami, Professor Partha Hajra for their unconditional support.

In 2002, I got married with Arunima and in 2004, Julie, our little cute daughter was born. Now she has grown up and going to school, preparing lunch for me, serving beverages when I am tired. Julie at her so small age knows that his father is a student of Physics and always engage doing some garbage works of no practical value!!!!!…but at this age she still loves my nature as what I am ! I want Julie to study chemistry but that is my own wish only.

I am a fun loving person, cannot stay stay away from humor and music always attracts me deeply. Interested both in Western & Eastern Classical music, whether it is Amjad Ali or Mozart be it Rashid khan or Bach. Apart from Western Classical, I am a very fond of Country Music.

The wash paintings particularly of Abanindranath Tagore and Ramkinkar Bej attract me a lot. I am interested in the world History and Philosophy. The Bertrand Russell’s ideas leave a deep scar in my mind. Russell’s “History of Western Philosophy” happens to be one of my favourite book.
